Establishing a Foundation for Regional Customized Lifelong Education Collaboration
On August 5, Seoul National University of Science and Technology announced that it had signed an agreement with Namyangju City and the Residents’ Autonomous Committee of Oebu-eup to launch the 'Namyangju Ieum University' initiative. This project aims to establish a community-based lifelong learning network through a collaborative partnership linking local governments, public institutions, and academia.

'Namyangju Ieum University' is a project that connects each region with a university on a one-to-one basis, identifies the learning needs of local residents, and provides customized lifelong learning opportunities by leveraging the universities’ outstanding resources. Seoul National University of Science and Technology, Kyungbok University, Seoul Women’s University, Korea University, and Sahmyook University are participating in this initiative.
The agreement ceremony was held at Namyangju City Hall on July 31. The purpose was to expand lifelong education opportunities for local residents and to share the educational assets of universities with the local community, thereby laying the foundation for mutual development and co-growth.
Through this agreement, Seoul National University of Science and Technology plans to: ▲Enhance the expertise and accessibility of local lifelong education by developing customized educational programs and providing professional instructors for local residents; ▲Establish a lifelong education network linking the region and universities; ▲Facilitate the exchange and utilization of excellent human and technological resources by providing the university’s educational infrastructure, research achievements, and expert networks; ▲Promote various collaborative projects for mutual development and friendship, including the creation of learning communities, operation of cultural events and special lectures, and participation in solving local issues.
Kim Donghwan, President of Seoul National University of Science and Technology, stated, "This agreement marks the first step for the university to create real change through close collaboration with the local community," and added, "Seoul National University of Science and Technology will continue to fulfill its responsibilities as an open educational institution that grows together with the region."
