'Water Bomb' Hits Muan and Hampyeong in South Jeolla... Facility Damages Continue

On the evening of August 3, heavy rainfall hit nine cities and provinces across the country, causing power outages, road flooding, and other facility damages.


According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (CDSCH) of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety on August 4, the accumulated precipitation from midnight the previous day until 5:00 p.m. on this day reached 289.6 mm in Muan and 277.5 mm in Hampyeong, both in South Jeolla Province. More than 200 mm of rain also fell in Hapcheon, South Gyeongsang Province, and Namwon, North Jeolla Province, among other areas.


The CDSCH stated that they are currently assessing casualties caused by the heavy rain. Facility damages have reached a total of 155 cases, including 68 public facilities and 87 private facilities.


So far, 2,152 households and 3,033 people have been affected in 33 cities, counties, and districts across nine cities and provinces. Most have returned home, but 53 households and 70 people have not yet been able to do so.
