Muan County in South Jeolla Province is focusing all administrative efforts on recovery from the damage caused by the recent record-breaking heavy rainfall and on implementing preventive measures to ensure the safety of its residents.

According to the county, starting on August 3, torrential rain centered on Muan-eup reached 113.5mm per hour, resulting in widespread damage such as flooding of underground apartment parking lots, homes, commercial buildings, and roads. This led to significant inconvenience for residents as well as repeated property damage.

As soon as the heavy rain began, the county immediately activated the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, switched to an emergency response system, and deployed half of all staff to emergency duty to prevent further damage and respond on site.

On the night of August 3, Muan County Governor Kim San issued urgent instructions for swift recovery measures and the securing of resident safety. He also visited the affected sites in person to inspect the recovery situation and directly led the response efforts.

On the morning of August 4, all county staff were mobilized to carry out a comprehensive recovery operation, including removing sediment, collecting waste, and maintaining drainage systems in the main downtown areas and flooded roads of Muan-eup, in an effort to restore daily life as quickly as possible.

Governor Kim stated, "I would like to express my deepest condolences to the residents who suffered damage from this heavy rain," and added, "We will focus not only on a rapid recovery, but also on establishing fundamental measures to prevent similar damage from recurring in the future."
