On August 1, Mayor Jeong held a meeting with executive members of the Samsung Electronics Pyeongtaek Campus, including Vice President Yoon Taeyang. The meeting was organized to celebrate the 22.8 trillion won semiconductor foundry contract between Samsung Electronics and Tesla, to discuss requests for continued investment in the Pyeongtaek Campus, and to share related current issues and explore avenues for cooperation.

During the meeting, Mayor Jeong stated, "The city is actively building a next-generation semiconductor testbed through semiconductor talent development via the Pyeongtaek Industry Promotion Agency and collaboration with the Korea Nanotechnology Research Society. As these plans become more concrete, the semiconductor ecosystem in Pyeongtaek will become even stronger."

Mayor Jeong added, "Thanks to the efforts of Samsung Electronics, there has been significant revitalization of the local economy and job creation. The local government will spare no effort in cooperating to ensure Samsung Electronics continues to grow as a global key enterprise."

According to the city, Samsung Electronics reaffirmed the smooth progress of its existing investment plans during the meeting and conveyed to the city issues related to infrastructure improvements, such as the connecting road to the Pyeongtaek Campus.

Meanwhile, last year the city established a five-year comprehensive plan to foster the semiconductor industry and is strengthening the creation of a semiconductor ecosystem by forming a supply-demand corporate council for the semiconductor industry and building cooperative systems with educational institutions to cultivate practical talent.
