This decision is being evaluated not merely as a schedule adjustment, but as a strategic move to elevate Gwangju as a key hub in the southeastern part of the Seoul metropolitan area.

Mayor Bang stated, "Some schedule adjustments were inevitable due to administrative and legal risks, as well as differing opinions among landowners. However, this is an essential process to secure both the public interest and the feasibility of the Gwangju Station Area development," expressing strong determination.

Through this adjustment, the city of Gwangju plans to establish a new public-oriented business plan centered on the construction of an integrated transfer center, and to pursue changes to the district unit plan through the Ministry of Land’s PF Adjustment Committee procedures.

The integrated transfer center is envisioned as key infrastructure for the upcoming era of triple station areas connecting the Suseo-Gwangju Line, GTX-D, and Gyeonggang Line. It will be developed as a three-dimensional transfer facility incorporating the concept of Traffic-Oriented Development (TOD), and will include citizen-focused infrastructure such as an integrated transfer terminal, transfer parking lot, and waiting rooms.

Mayor Bang also stated, "We will include measures to expand public contributions that citizens can truly experience," and added, "We will make efforts to ensure that development profits are returned in a tangible way to the local community."

Meanwhile, before the project begins, the city plans to temporarily utilize idle land as spaces for citizen convenience. In addition to improving the cityscape through environmental maintenance and the creation of public parking lots, these efforts are expected to prevent crime, alleviate parking inconveniences, and enhance transfer convenience for Gyeonggang Line users.

Mayor Bang emphasized, "Through transparent and responsible administration, we will develop Gwangju into a key hub in the southeastern part of the Seoul metropolitan area."
