Demonstrating the Design Competitiveness of the Energy Plus App
GS Caltex announced on August 4 that it has become the first oil refining company to win two main awards at the '2025 Red Dot Design Award,' in recognition of its ongoing efforts to enhance customer convenience through its Energy Plus application (app).
The Red Dot Design Award is considered one of the world's top three design awards, alongside the U.S. IDEA Award and Germany's iF Design Award. Each year, it selects winners in three categories: product design, brand and communication design, and design concept.
The Energy Plus app received main awards in two categories within the brand and communication design section: 'App' and 'Interface and User Experience Design.' The judging in the brand and communication design category focuses on the creativity and originality of the idea, the completeness and innovativeness of the design, and the emotional impact that is intuitively conveyed to users.
This award is expected to objectively demonstrate the design competitiveness of the Energy Plus app and, at the same time, serve as an opportunity to enhance the brand's external credibility.
GS Caltex launched the Energy Plus app in 2021 to enhance convenience for fueling customers and has since provided new fueling experiences and benefits. In particular, the app’s key feature, the BaroJuyu (Quick Refueling) service, allows customers to pre-register their fuel type, fueling amount, and payment method in the app. At the gas station, customers can receive discounts, earn points, and complete payment all at once simply by scanning a barcode or entering a PIN.
This year, for the first time among domestic oil refiners, GS Caltex launched a service that allows customers to use key features of the Energy Plus app?such as finding gas stations, Quick Refueling, and checking coupons and points?directly through their car displays. The company also introduced the 'Shake and Pay' service, which enables customers to quickly access the Quick Refueling function by shaking their smartphones. In addition, by renewing the home screen widget, GS Caltex improved the app so that essential functions such as Quick Refueling, checking favorite gas stations, and comparing prices can be accessed simply by touching the widget, without launching the app.
Last month, GS Caltex was selected as number one in the gas station category for the 17th consecutive year in the National Customer Satisfaction Survey. This recognition was based on its efforts to listen to customer feedback in real time through the Energy Plus app and other channels, quickly respond, and provide new fueling experiences and benefits that customers can truly feel.
Kim Changsoo, Executive Vice President of Mobility and Marketing at GS Caltex, stated, "GS Caltex will continue to improve the Energy Plus app so that customers can experience greater satisfaction and value through intuitive services where design and technology are harmoniously integrated."
