Ulsan Rising Port Wins Winner Prize at Red Dot Design Award, One of the World’s Top Three Design Awards

Recognized for Design Excellence on the Global Stage

Ulsan City announced that "Ulsan Rising Port," which is operated on the first floor of the Ulsan Museum, has achieved the remarkable feat of winning the Winner prize in the Brand & Communication Design category at the Red Dot Design Award, one of the world's top three design awards.

The Red Dot Design Award, organized by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Germany, is one of the most prestigious design awards in the world. It began in 1995 and comprehensively evaluates the innovation and design excellence of products, brands, and communication fields.

Ulsan Rising Port is a facility where visitors can experience Ulsan’s tourist attractions as if actually flying, by riding a simulated device floating at a height of 1 meter and watching a 6-minute video that realistically depicts places such as Taehwagang National Garden, Yeongnam Alps, Daewangam Park, and the future industrial city.

The seamless five-sided immersive video system, wire-based simulation device, and LED lighting system are organically integrated in one space, providing users with a three-dimensional experience that connects space, vision, and senses.

The overall design is inspired by the rock cliffs along the Taehwagang riverside, while the simulation device visualizes Ulsan’s representative symbol by drawing inspiration from the bubble net created by whales.

This award demonstrates that the planning ability embodied in "Ulsan Rising Port" has been recognized globally. The project was highly praised for sensibly delivering tourism content through spatial composition and effective communication methods.

Since its opening in May, "Ulsan Rising Port" has attracted an average of 130 visitors on weekends and holidays, gaining great popularity and continuously increasing visitor numbers. With this Red Dot Design Award win, it is expected to draw even more attention.

An official from Ulsan City stated, "Winning the Red Dot Design Award for 'Ulsan Rising Port' is the result of realizing the city's image as a future new industry hub through sophisticated design content." The official added, "We will continue to provide visitors with rich experiences by integrating cutting-edge technology with culture and tourism, further enhancing the prestige of Ulsan as a tourism city."
