Canada Sees Widespread Boycott of American Products After Trump’s Tariff Bomb

Tariff Raised from 25% to 35%

Canada has been hit with a "35% tariff bomb" by the United States, leading to a widespread boycott of American products.

On August 1 (local time), President Trump raised tariffs on all Canadian products not included in the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) from the previous 25% to 35%.

Canadian broadcaster CBC reported on how Canadians are responding to the trade war in their daily lives. A significant number of Canadians are purchasing more Canadian-made products and have adopted an attitude of "anything is fine as long as it's not American." In a viewer survey, many respondents said they have developed the habit of checking where products are made when shopping for groceries.

CBC also reported that Canadians are boycotting American products in various ways, such as moving assets or investments from the United States to Canada, canceling American streaming services, and halting so-called "snowbird" trips, where Canadians spend extended periods in the United States during winter.
