Concerns Over Attempts to Eliminate the Opposition and Legislative Dictatorship
On August 2, the People Power Party commented on the election of Jung Chungrae as the new leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, stating, "Unless the Democratic Party intends to cater solely to its hardline supporters, we hope that even now it will stop its confrontational stance against the ruling party and threats against the opposition, and instead respect the People Power Party as a partner in state affairs."

Chief Spokesperson Kwak Gyutaek stated in a commentary that day, "We congratulate Representative Jung on his election," but added, "At the same time, it is true that we are concerned about the 'Democratic Party under Jung Chungrae.'"
Chief Spokesperson Kwak pointed out, "Representative Jung is considered one of the most hardline figures even within the Democratic Party. During his tenure as chair of the National Assembly Legislation and Judiciary Committee, he used the party's overwhelming number of seats to suppress the People Power Party. During the party convention, he focused solely on expressing unwavering loyalty to President Lee Jaemyung and targeting the hardline support base with attacks on the opposition."
Chief Spokesperson Kwak further noted, "Recently, under the pretext of ending insurrection, he even proposed an unconstitutional bill that would allow the dissolution of political parties deemed unconstitutional by a National Assembly vote, thus attempting to 'eradicate the opposition.' Judging by his previous words and actions, it seems all too clear that Representative Jung's goal lies not in bipartisan cooperation, but rather in single-party dominance and legislative dictatorship."
