Distribution of Textbooks Including Spanish and Chinese
Four Advanced Foreign Language Textbooks Approved for High Schools
Jeonnam Education Office Promotes 'Glocal Education' with New Curriculum
The Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education announced on August 1 that it has given final approval to four advanced foreign language textbooks developed in accordance with the 2022 revised curriculum. The approved textbooks include three for Advanced Chinese and one for Advanced Spanish, all designed to support in-depth learning for high school students who select a second foreign language as an elective subject.
The Provincial Office of Education explained that these textbooks focus on enhancing professional understanding of various language regions and improving communication skills. In particular, the development of these textbooks is part of Jeonnam Education Office's initiative for 'glocal education,' and they are structured to strengthen students' self-directed learning and inquiry activities.
The development of these textbooks underwent a review process lasting about eight months, starting in November of the previous year, before receiving final approval. Four review teams, each composed of subject-matter expert reviewers, conducted a thorough process including a basic survey, main review, and sample inspection. The textbooks then passed the final review by the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education's Recognized Textbook Review Management Committee.
Last year, the Provincial Office of Education also developed and approved 15 second foreign language textbooks (Chinese, Japanese, Spanish) and eight specialized textbooks in the fisheries·shipping and agriculture·forestry fields. This year, the diversity and connectivity of the foreign language curriculum have been further strengthened through the introduction of advanced foreign language textbooks.
Superintendent Kim Daejung stated, "Providing an environment where students can choose subjects that match their career paths and aptitudes, and learn through them, is the core of school education." He added, "I hope these newly developed textbooks will be widely used in high schools across the country and contribute to diversifying the curriculum and realizing customized education for students."
