Autonomous Adjustment Plan Reflecting Local Characteristics Approved
53 Additional Taxis to Be Added
Gimpo City in Gyeonggi Province has secured the addition of 53 taxis (based on license count).
On August 1, Gimpo City announced that the results of the '5th Taxi Quota Assessment' passed the Gyeonggi Province review on July 30.
As citizen demands for an increase in the number of taxis continued, Gimpo City made ongoing efforts to secure the maximum allocation in this review. According to the research service for the 5th taxi quota assessment, the appropriate number of taxis for Gimpo City was calculated to be 623, which is 9 fewer than the current number of 632 taxis.
However, in May, the city held a 'Taxi Quota Autonomous Adjustment Council' to comprehensively review various opinions, including guaranteeing citizens' mobility rights, resolving taxi shortages in late-night vulnerable areas, and stabilizing the management of the taxi industry. As a result, the council unanimously agreed to increase the number of taxis within 10% of the calculated quota. With the application of this autonomous adjustment, the total taxi quota was set at 685, making it possible to add 53 taxis.
The addition of 53 taxis was reflected in this Gyeonggi Province review, and after administrative procedures such as the Gyeonggi Province official announcement, the additional taxis will be supplied according to the annual supply plan from the second half of 2025 to the first half of 2027.
Lee Youngjong, Head of the Public Transportation Division at Gimpo City Hall, stated, "We expect that this expansion of taxi supply will contribute to improving citizens' transportation welfare and establishing a stable operational foundation for the taxi industry."
