Solo Exhibition by Artist Jang Hojung
To Be Held at Gyeyang Art Gallery from August 14 to 27
The Incheon Cultural Foundation announced on August 1 that from August 14 to August 27, artist Jang Hojung's solo exhibition, "Beyond What You See - From Object to Thought," selected for the 2025 Art Creation Open Call, will be held at the Gyeyang Art Gallery of the Gyeyang Cultural Center (1st floor of Gyeyang-gu Office).
Jang, who states, "When the familiar relationship between objects and senses is twisted and rearranged, a deeper dimension of the object opens up, and from there, the poetry of the object emerges," has explored the formative and sensory possibilities of vinyl as a material for over ten years.
This exhibition presents works that contemplate further expanded layers of sensation and the depth of existence. Research professor Cho Kyungjin of Yonsei University commented, "Jang Hojung's paintings go beyond simple visual representation; they are an aesthetic practice that brings the reality of existence and the texture of sensation onto the canvas," adding, "Visitors will be able to experience the moment when the most ordinary and everyday object is reborn as a sublime presence within the realm of art."
In particular, this exhibition will collect visitors' impressions in text form, which will be displayed together during the latter part of the exhibition. This attempt expands the 'layer of gaze' and draws the viewers' sensory responses to objects back into the exhibition itself, adding deeper meaning and density to the show.
