"Supporting Seniors' Mobility" Hanam City Issues First 'Tong Hanam' Reimbursements

Hanam City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Hyunjae) announced on August 1 that it had distributed the first round of reimbursements for the 'Tong Hanam (Senior Public Transportation Fare Support)' program, which has been implemented to guarantee mobility rights and alleviate transportation costs for residents aged 70 and older. The first payments were made on July 31.

'Tong Hanam' is a program that reimburses transportation expenses for Hanam residents aged 70 and older who use a G-PASS transportation card to ride local, city, or metropolitan buses passing through Hanam City. The program provides up to 40,000 won per quarter (up to 160,000 won per year) in reimbursements. The payments are made to the seniors' individual NongHyup bank accounts.

As of June 30, a total of 17,125 seniors aged 70 and older?approximately 53% of eligible Hanam residents?had applied for the program. Of these, 12,305 individuals who actually used the transportation card received reimbursements. The total number of rides reached approximately 139,000, and the total amount of transportation fare support provided was 202.73 million won.

It was analyzed that each senior who received a reimbursement saved an average of about 16,000 won in transportation costs. This has greatly contributed not only to improving mobility convenience for seniors but also to reducing their living expenses.

Mayor Lee Hyunjae stated, "The Tong Hanam program has established itself as a meaningful policy that helps seniors move freely and conveniently while also easing their financial burden. We will continue to develop and expand various policies to further enhance the welfare of our senior citizens."
