Recommended Summer Vacation Spots for Families:
Beaches, Valleys, and Park Water Playgrounds
Emphasis on Following Safety Guidelines
Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam has introduced major summer vacation destinations so that citizens can enjoy a safe and refreshing summer as the peak holiday season begins.
Gwangam Beach, major valleys, and water playgrounds in various city parks are popular spots where families can cool off together during the heat. The city also emphasizes the importance of following water safety rules to ensure a safe summer for everyone.
◆ 'Gwangam Beach' for Family Fun
Gwangam Beach, which opened on July 5, is a representative beach of Changwon. The city has stationed safety personnel and expanded safety facilities, including life-saving equipment, to ensure that all visitors can enjoy water activities with peace of mind. Gwangam Beach features gentle waves, shallow waters, warm temperatures, and various amenities such as showers, changing rooms, and parasols, making it increasingly popular among families each year. Additionally, major tourist attractions such as Jeodo Kwai River Bridge, Masan Robot Land, and the Marine Drama Set are located nearby, making it convenient for visitors to explore multiple destinations.
◆ Healing in Nature, 'Valley Vacation Spots'
The city is also working to ensure safety at major valleys by deploying guides and posting banners during the summer. Popular valleys among citizens include Dalcheon Valley in Changwon, Seowongok in Masan, and Seongheungsa Valley in Jinhae. In particular, Dalcheon Valley features an auto-camping site where visitors can enjoy camping overnight in nature (campground reservations are required). Since cooking is prohibited in most valleys, it is recommended to bring simple meals such as packed lunches and fruit when visiting.
◆ Urban Oasis from the Heat, 'Park Water Playgrounds'
From July 4 to August 24, for a total of 52 days, the city is operating water playgrounds at nine urban parks, including Gieopsarang Park and 3.15 Haeyangnuri Park. These urban water playgrounds are especially popular among families with young children, providing a safe and convenient place to cool off close to home. The city conducts regular water quality inspections and has safety personnel on site at all times to ensure safe operations.
◆ Request to Follow Water Safety Rules
The city stressed that basic rules such as wearing life jackets and not leaving designated areas must be strictly followed in water recreation areas. Key safety guidelines include: warming up before entering the water, never entering the water after drinking alcohol, checking for dangerous areas such as water depth and currents, wearing a life jacket, ensuring children are always accompanied by a guardian, evacuating immediately in case of sudden weather changes such as heavy rainfall, knowing basic first aid procedures such as CPR, and being familiar with the contact information for 119 and safety personnel. In particular, since some sections of valleys may have sudden increases in water flow or depth, children must always wear life jackets and guardians must remain vigilant at all times.
Jang Geumyong, Acting Mayor of Changwon Special City, stated, "During this hot summer, we will do our utmost to ensure thorough safety management and comfortable vacation spots so that citizens can enjoy water activities safely and pleasantly," and urged, "We also ask all citizens to strictly follow basic safety rules."
