Immediate Control Measures Implemented in Areas at Risk of Collapse

Gapyeong County in Gyeonggi Province has launched an emergency safety inspection of rural guesthouses that sustained damage from torrential rains, aiming to secure the safety of tourists. This measure is a proactive response to prevent visitors to rural guesthouses during the peak summer vacation season from being exposed to unexpected secondary accidents.

The county prioritized on-site inspections of 27 guesthouses deemed at risk of disaster among those that suffered damage such as yard and access road washouts, inflow of earth and sand, retaining wall collapses, and drainage system failures due to recent heavy rainfall. The focus was on facilities among the total 1,080 rural guesthouses in the county that either reported damage or were at high risk of structural collapse.

The county closely examined both internal and external risk factors at each business site, as well as the safety of access roads. For facilities where a risk of collapse was identified, control lines and warning signs were installed. Residents and guests in the vicinity were also informed to refrain from entering hazardous areas.

Gapyeong County plans to continuously monitor the progress of rural guesthouse restoration and to strengthen safety education for business owners. This is intended to minimize damage in the event of an emergency and to ensure that tourists can visit with peace of mind.

A county official stated, "We are thoroughly inspecting and controlling guesthouses with risk factors in advance to ensure a safe and relaxing experience for tourists visiting Gapyeong," adding, "We will continue to do our utmost to prevent disaster-related accidents through proactive safety management."
