Incheon International Airport Corporation has launched a service that allows passengers to view real-time congestion levels at the airport's departure halls.
On August 1, Incheon International Airport Corporation announced that it has begun providing a real-time "Estimated Departure Hall Processing Time Information Service" via LED display boards located above the departure halls at Incheon Airport.
This newly introduced service informs airport users of the estimated total time required to complete all departure procedures, from entering the departure hall in the passenger terminal, passing through security screening, and finishing immigration. The estimated time is provided down to the minute, enhancing user convenience.
With this service, airport users can compare the estimated processing times for each area at a glance before entering the departure hall, allowing them to choose a less crowded hall. As a result, it is expected to help disperse congestion within the terminal during the summer vacation season and improve overall convenience.
The estimated processing times are provided by analyzing real-time passenger movement data collected through big data sensors installed throughout the airport. Instead of showing times for each segment, the system offers an integrated estimate for the entire departure process, aiming to deliver more practical movement information.
Additionally, the airport corporation will display estimated walking times from a passenger's current location to their boarding gate on the flight information monitors. This is expected to help passengers plan their routes and manage their time more efficiently. The service will first be applied to Terminal 1, and after a pilot operation, it will be expanded to Terminal 2.
President Lee Hakjae stated, "By providing advance notice of estimated times, this customized service is designed to minimize passenger inconvenience caused by congestion at departure halls and allow travelers to enjoy the airport more comfortably," adding, "We will continue to pursue innovation in overall airport operations in line with the digital transformation and further expand our passenger-centered smart information services."
