Sejong City to Conduct Comprehensive Inspection of Facilities Subject to This Year's Traffic Congestion Charge

A comprehensive inspection of facilities subject to the 2025 Traffic Congestion Charge will be conducted until August 30 next month. The Traffic Congestion Charge is a fee imposed on owners of facilities that cause traffic congestion, in accordance with the Urban Traffic Improvement Promotion Act.

According to Sejong City on August 1, the charge is regularly imposed in early October every year, and the payment period for this year is from October 16 to October 31. The charge applies if an individual owns 160 square meters or more of a facility with a total floor area of at least 10,000 square meters. Residential buildings, schools, and other facilities exempted by law are excluded. The assessment period is from August 1, 2024, to July 31, 2025, and if there is a change of ownership during this period, an application for prorated calculation may be submitted within 10 days from the date of notification, so that the charge is recalculated based on the actual ownership period.

If a facility has not been used for 30 days or more due to reasons such as business suspension, a non-use report and supporting documents may be submitted within 30 days from the date of notification to receive a reduction in the charge. In order to alleviate the economic burden on small business owners due to the economic downturn, the full expansion of the charge imposition has been postponed from this year to next year through an amendment to the relevant ordinance, and the unit charge for private facilities in the new urban area has been reduced by approximately 30 percent.

Lee Eunyoung, head of the Transportation Policy Division, stated, "We ask for the active cooperation of facility representatives and related personnel during on-site inspections to ensure the smooth implementation of the Traffic Congestion Charge."
