Three Injured in the Incident
One Transported to Armed Forces Capital Hospital
A fire broke out on the 2,600-ton Navy landing ship Hyangrobong, which was entering Jinhae, and the initial extinguishing was completed after approximately 12 hours. The Navy plans to form an accident investigation committee to determine the cause of the fire.
According to the Navy on August 1, the initial extinguishing of the fire that occurred on the Hyangrobong was completed at around 3:45 a.m. on this day. Currently, final operations are underway, including removing remaining embers and checking for any potential hidden fires.
Previously, at around 3:49 p.m. the previous day, a fire broke out in the auxiliary engine room of the Navy landing ship while it was entering the Jinhae naval port in Changwon, Gyeongnam. There were about 180 people on board, including crew members, and three of them were injured. Among the injured, one non-commissioned officer was transported to the Armed Forces Capital Hospital for treatment, and two soldiers who inhaled smoke recovered and returned to their unit after receiving medical care.
A Navy official stated, "We will form an accident investigation committee to thoroughly investigate the cause of the incident and establish measures to prevent recurrence."
