One Day Before Reciprocal Tariffs Take Effect... Trump Says "Thanks to Tariffs, America Is Great Again"

"Hit for decades by corrupt politicians," Trump says on SNS
Claims, "We are successfully countering tariff offensives"

On July 31 (local time), one day before the effective date of the United States' reciprocal tariffs, President Donald Trump stated, "Thanks to tariffs, America is becoming great and prosperous again," giving himself a positive assessment.

One Day Before Reciprocal Tariffs Take Effect... Trump Says "Thanks to Tariffs, America Is Great Again"

On this day, President Trump used his social networking service, Truth Social, to say, "Tariffs have been successfully used against the United States for decades, to our disadvantage, and were tied to truly stupid, pathetic, and corrupt politicians. As a result, we suffered serious damage to our future and even to the very survival of our country." This appears to be a criticism of his predecessors' trade policies.

He continued, "Now, the tide has completely turned, and the United States is successfully countering these tariff offensives from foreign countries that were used against us to our disadvantage."

President Trump also claimed that the United States was a "failed nation" just a year ago, but has now become the most successful country in the world, and he offered congratulations to everyone.

President Trump's post is interpreted as stemming from his belief that recent trade negotiations with Europe, Japan, and South Korea have produced positive results, such as attracting large-scale investments into the United States. On the eve of the tariff effective date, the U.S. government concluded trade negotiations with South Korea, the European Union (EU), Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Cambodia.

Meanwhile, on this day, the federal appeals court in Washington, D.C. will begin full-scale hearings on the legality of President Trump's reciprocal tariffs. Regarding this, President Trump stated, "If our country cannot protect itself with 'counter-tariffs,' we will fail without even the possibility of survival or success."

He added, "I wish the best of luck today in America's important lawsuit to all my great lawyers who have fought so hard to save our country."

The United States Court of International Trade (USCIT) ruled on May 28 that the exclusive authority to impose tariffs belongs to Congress, and ordered the withdrawal of President Trump's reciprocal tariffs, which had been implemented based on the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). However, when the Trump administration immediately appealed, the federal appeals court suspended the effect of the USCIT ruling while the substantive hearing continues.
