It May Take Time to Fully Extinguish the Fire
"All Available Resources Are Being Mobilized"
At approximately 3:49 p.m. on July 31, a fire broke out in the auxiliary engine room of a 2,600-ton Navy landing ship (Hyangrobong) that was entering Jinhae Naval Port in Jinhae-gu, Changwon-si, Gyeongsangnam-do.
According to the Navy, there were about 180 people on board, including crew members. Among them, three people suffered burns or showed symptoms of respiratory distress. Of these, one burn victim was urgently transported to a maritime medical center.
All of the patients are reported to be in stable condition and their lives are not in danger.
The vessel entered Jinhae Naval Port at around 6:10 p.m., and the Navy, in cooperation with the Changwon Fire Department, is working to extinguish the fire.
Due to the large size of the ship, it is expected to take a considerable amount of time to fully put out the fire. The Navy stated, "All personnel except for the captain and the pilot have evacuated the ship," and added, "We are mobilizing all available resources to do our utmost to extinguish the fire."
