Naju City in South Jeolla Province celebrated the selection of the rural space improvement project together with the residents of Daesan-ri in Seji-myeon, who have long awaited the resolution of livestock odor issues that have persisted for over 40 years.
On July 31, Naju City announced that the residents of Daesan-ri in Seji-myeon recently held a village festival to share the joy of being selected for the '2025 Rural Space Improvement Project'.
The village festival took place at the Juksan Village Hall in Daesan-ri, jointly hosted by residents of Daesan 1, 2, and 3-ri. It was organized to celebrate a turning point in resolving the pigsty odor problem that had lasted for more than 40 years.
Approximately 100 people attended the event, including Naju Mayor Yoon Byungtae, city officials, local figures, members of the village promotion committee, and residents.
Mayor Yoon stated, "Since taking office as mayor, I have prioritized addressing rural issues with the belief that 'the heart of Naju is its rural areas.' This Daesan-ri project is the result of those efforts, and the city administration will continue to play its part in creating a rural community where people want to return and where everyone wants to live."
One resident expressed, "I am very happy that the odor I have endured all my life will finally disappear. Now, I have great hope that my grandchildren can safely play in the yard."
Meanwhile, Naju City has been selected for the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs' rural space improvement project for four consecutive years, including Daesan-ri in Seji-myeon, steadily improving living conditions in underdeveloped rural areas and promoting sustainable rural development.
