Lee Jin-ho, Chief of the Southern Fire Station at the Sejong Fire Headquarters, visited the Naver Data Center 'Gak Sejong' located in Jiphyeon-dong on July 31 to conduct an on-site inspection aimed at strengthening fire prevention and safety management.
This inspection was carried out in response to the recent ongoing heatwave, which has led to a sharp increase in power consumption at the data center. The purpose was to proactively check for potential disruptions to equipment systems caused by power outages or overheating. The inspection focused on examining power and cooling facilities, as well as closely checking the status of fire detection and suppression systems and emergency response manuals.
Both the Fire Headquarters and the jurisdictional Southern Fire Station plan to continuously strengthen fire prevention activities for high-power consumption facilities, including data centers, and to establish a thorough safety management system in preparation for worsening weather conditions such as heatwaves.
Chief Lee Jin-ho stated, "If a data center shuts down due to a power outage or overheating, it could cause national-level disruption, so thorough inspections and preventive measures are essential." He also emphasized, "Data centers should regularly monitor for any abnormal signs in power and cooling equipment and maintain a readiness posture to respond swiftly in the event of a fire."
