Gwangju Dong-gu Council announced on July 31 that it held a forum titled "Economic Revitalization Through the Creation of an Open Cultural and Artistic Space at Jisan Amusement Park" on July 30 in the council's small conference room. The event aimed to revitalize the local economy centered on Jisan Amusement Park and to explore urban regeneration strategies based on culture and the arts.
The event was chaired by Park Jonggyun, Chair of the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts of Dong-gu Council, and served as a forum to discuss innovative changes for Jisan Amusement Park. Various opinions were presented, including those related to AI, e-sports, and complex cultural facilities.
Experts presented blueprints to transform Jisan Amusement Park from a simple space into a global hub for culture and the arts. Yoo Youngtae, Professor Emeritus at Chosun University, emphasized the tourism industry's potential through the attraction of international art events. Kwak Junho, CEO of KTCCM Co., Ltd., proposed plans for creating an AI-integrated cultural space.
Notable ideas included: ▲ an AI-based media art trail ▲ an interactive digital art experience center ▲ and the remodeling of a hotel into an e-sports hotel.
In particular, a project proposed by Jung Giljong, CEO of World Esports Holdings, to remodel the Shinyang Park Hotel into an "e-sports hotel" was evaluated as an innovative measure that could simultaneously attract young people and revitalize the local economy.
Local residents also participated actively. Yoon Seungo and Hong Younghwan, heads of the Residents' Autonomy Association, emphasized the importance of creating culture spaces closely connected to daily life, while Kim Seungjae, head of the Merchants' Association, proposed an open space where artists and merchants could coexist.
Moon Sunhwa, Chair of Dong-gu Council, highlighted in her congratulatory remarks, "The revitalization of Jisan Amusement Park and the utilization of Shinyang Park Hotel are long-cherished projects for Dong-gu. I hope this forum will serve as a meaningful turning point."
Meanwhile, the forum was evaluated as having confirmed the potential for Jisan Amusement Park to become the "cultural and economic center of Gwangju" by presenting a new model of cooperation among the arts, technology, residents, and merchants based on the region's unique assets.
