Solving Price Gouging and Environmental Issues
Through the "Eunvengers Supporters"
The 27th Bonghwa Euneo Festival, a representative summer festival in North Gyeongsang Province, is being recognized as a model case for spreading a healthy festival culture through the resident-led campaign "Eunvengers Supporters."
This campaign takes place for 30 minutes each day during the festival, with the core goals of eradicating price gouging, promoting eco-friendly practices, and establishing a safe festival culture. Residents from each town and township in Bonghwa County, along with local organizations, voluntarily participate by visiting commercial booths and major facilities to deliver messages to visitors.
At the "Bonghwain Da Moyotdang" event held on the 31st, residents from Jaesan-myeon and Sangun-myeon carried out the campaign using pickets and banners.
A tourist surnamed Lee (42, Seoul), who visited the site, said, "The fact that the festival is created together with local residents inspires trust," and added, "I believe the Bonghwa Euneo Festival will establish itself as a truly mutually beneficial festival."
An official from the Bonghwa Festival Tourism Foundation stated, "The Eunvengers Supporters is a hands-on program where local residents directly participate to uphold the festival culture," and continued, "We will continue to expand the resident-led participation structure and develop the Bonghwa Euneo Festival into a sustainable, leading festival."
This campaign is significant in that it goes beyond simple festival management to present a mutually beneficial festival model through the voluntary participation of local residents.
Experts have evaluated that as the culture of local residents taking the lead, rather than local governments, spreads, it will have a positive effect on revitalizing the local economy and enhancing tourism competitiveness.
