Korea Racing Authority Gwangju Branch donated a total of 8 million won, including 5 million won to Donggu Community Security Council and 3 million won to Gyerim 1-dong Community Security Council. Provided by Gwangju Community Chest of Korea
Gwangju Community Chest of Korea (hereinafter referred to as Gwangju Sarangui Yeolmae) announced on July 31 that the Gwangju branch of the Korea Racing Authority has donated a total of 8 million won, with 5 million won to the Dong-gu Community Security Council and 3 million won to the Gyerim 1-dong Community Security Council.
The donation ceremony, held in the afternoon at the Gwangju branch of the Korea Racing Authority, was attended by Jang Youngwan, head of the Gwangju branch, as well as officials from the Dong-gu Community Security Council, the Gyerim 1-dong Community Security Council, and staff members from Gwangju Sarangui Yeolmae.
The Dong-gu Community Security Council will use the 5 million won donation to implement the Dental Treatment Hope Bridge Support Project for residents of jjokbangchon (shantytown) areas. This project aims to provide essential basic dental care services to residents of non-residential facilities who are currently excluded from medical coverage.
The Gyerim 1-dong Community Security Council will operate a Korean language learning center for seniors aged 65 and older who are illiterate due to a lack of educational opportunities in the past, using the 3 million won donation. The program will include basic Korean language classes, provision of textbooks and school supplies, as well as field learning activities.
Since 2003, the Korea Racing Authority has been at the forefront of sharing with the local community, having consistently donated approximately 770 million won in cash and about 135 million won worth of goods to Gwangju Sarangui Yeolmae.
Jang Youngwan, head of the Gwangju branch of the Korea Racing Authority, stated, "There are still underprivileged neighbors in our society who are facing economic difficulties. I hope this serves as an opportunity to maintain ongoing social interest in them, and the Korea Racing Authority will continue to stand with the underprivileged and vulnerable groups in the local community."
A representative from Gwangju Sarangui Yeolmae said, "This project, led by the Community Security Councils, is a case of welfare implementation based on actual needs within the community. The Community Chest will continue to carefully address welfare blind spots in cooperation with the local community and deliver support to places in need of sharing."
