Meticulous Methods Employed, Including Forgery of Official Documents
Recently, there have been confirmed cases in which certain fraudsters impersonated employees of the Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education and demanded money from companies under the pretext of purchasing (supplying) goods or paying for services. Caution is therefore required.
The Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education announced that, following the occurrence of such fraud cases in which scammers impersonate public officials and demand money from companies, special attention is needed to prevent similar damage.
These individuals employ meticulous methods, such as forging official documents or stealing the personal contact information of public officials.
The Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education emphasized that under no circumstances does it directly request money via phone calls, text messages, or emails. Regarding contracts (supplies) and payment of fees, companies must always verify the facts with the relevant department of the Office of Education via phone call. In addition, if a case suspected to be an impersonation scam occurs, the Office requested that it be immediately reported to the local police station.
The Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education has requested an investigation into this incident from the Dunsan Police Station and plans to firmly respond to crimes involving impersonation of public institutions by promptly sharing information and providing external guidance in the event of similar cases in the future.
Ko Youngkyu, Director of General Affairs at the Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education, stated, "Criminal acts that impersonate the Office of Education are serious matters that undermine trust in public institutions," and urged, "If you receive any suspicious contact, please make sure to verify the facts."
