Dongducheon Holds Interim Report on Mid- to Long-Term Comprehensive Development Plan

The city of Dongducheon in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Park Hyungdeok) announced on the 31st that it held an interim report meeting for the 'Dongducheon City Mid- to Long-Term Comprehensive Development Plan' in the city hall situation room on the 30th, with about 50 attendees including the mayor and senior officials. At the meeting, they shared the future vision and key tasks aimed at maximizing the region's growth potential.

This plan focused not only on presenting a long-term vision, but also on deriving actionable short-term tasks and mid- to long-term strategies. The plan was based on a survey of 2,205 citizens, interviews with local figures, and analysis of higher-level plans and policies.


The key tasks presented include: ▲Development plans and regular research for each US military base return site ▲Support for public rental housing supply and repair/safety management of aging homes ▲Selection of the main district for the Education Advancement Special Zone ▲Creation of a national industrial complex defense industry cluster ▲Conversion of the Polytechnic Education Institute to a campus ▲Expansion of a national-level metropolitan transportation network ▲Attraction of an international skating rink and development linked to Soyo Mountain ▲Revitalization of the original downtown through the coexistence of culture, commercial districts, and shared spaces.


Participants at the report meeting requested measures to strengthen transportation accessibility to ensure smooth progress of the Soyo Mountain expansion and development project. They also suggested that the direction of ongoing public contest projects should be reflected, and recommended supplementing the content to enhance consistency with national and Gyeonggi Province master plans, among other various opinions.


Park Hyungdeok, Mayor of Dongducheon, stated, "This mid- to long-term development plan goes beyond simple planning; it is a fundamental shift in the direction of our city's development." He further emphasized, "Please focus on establishing practical strategies that can lead to securing national and provincial funds, as well as laying the groundwork for positively changing the image of Dongducheon."
