Marking its 15th edition this year, "CKC 2025" is the largest Korea-Canada science and technology exchange event in North America and is being held in Montreal, Canada, from July 28 to August 1. Pohang City was the only local government invited to the battery session and delivered a presentation.

Jointly hosted by the Korean-Canadian Scientists and Engineers Association and the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies, this event brought together over 500 participants from industry, academia, research, and government sectors of both countries to discuss cooperation in science and technology, secondary batteries, and other innovation fields.

Pohang City's participation was built upon a foundation of cooperation that has been strengthened through the visit of battery delegations from three energy cluster cities in Quebec in October last year, and the visits to Pohang by Tamara Mawhinney, Canadian Ambassador to Korea, and a Canadian battery business delegation in January this year.

This visit was also initiated at the direct instruction of Pohang Mayor Lee Kangdeok, following a request from Damian Pereira, Quebec Government Representative in Korea, during a roundtable at the World Local and Regional Governments Climate Summit in May.

On July 30, Seo Hyunjun, Director of Pohang's Advanced Battery Industry Division, gave a presentation titled "Pohang, The Heart of South Korea's Battery Industry," introducing Pohang's battery strategy and vision, and called for the interest and participation of global companies and institutions in the "International Battery Expo 2025 Pohang," which will be held in Pohang in November.

During the business trip, the Pohang delegation also visited McGill University and Universite de Montreal to discuss joint research and talent exchange with local universities such as POSTECH, and proposed partnerships for long-term international academic cooperation.

In addition, the delegation visited Hydro-Quebec, which is jointly conducting the "Trinity Project" with Ecopro Innovation, to learn about the latest technologies in lithium metal anodes and all-solid-state batteries and exchanged views on potential future collaboration.

They also visited the Becancour site, where Ecopro and POSCO Future M are building production bases to target the North American market, held meetings with local stakeholders, and discussed intercity cooperation measures leveraging the global expansion of regional leading companies.

This visit to Canada served as a significant milestone, confirming that the "Pohang Battery Industry City Model" is now expanding into the global supply chain and further strengthening ties with the North American market.

Based on the global secondary battery cooperation network it has established, Pohang City plans to successfully host the "International Battery Expo 2025 Pohang" in November, lead the future of sustainable energy, and further solidify its status as a global battery hub city growing together with the world.
