Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on July 31 that, as part of its urban forest creation project, it has established the 'Ssamji Park', a pocket park on unused land near Myobongcheon in Myobong 4-ri, Idong-eup, Cheoin-gu, and the 'Child Safety Green Forest' along the sidewalk near Sanyang Elementary School in Giheung-gu.
Ssamji Park was created to expand the limited rest areas for residents, with a budget of 125 million won. The project involved removing existing trees and replacing old paving blocks.
For the 'Child Safety Green Forest', 200 million won was invested to plant approximately 700 trees of 8 species, including Acer palmatum, and about 2,500 plants of 13 flower species, including Yucca, along the sidewalk near Sanyang Elementary School. The 'Child Safety Green Forest' is a project to create an urban forest on sidewalks within children's protection zones to provide a healthy and safe environment for commuting to school.
