Highlighting the History of the Anti-Japanese Independence Movement
on the 80th Anniversary of Liberation
The Busan Regional Patriots and Veterans Affairs Office (Director Namil Lee) announced on July 31 that it has selected the Busan Liberation Memorial Hall, located in Jungang Park, Dongdaeshin-dong, Seo-gu, as the 'Memorial Facility of the Month' for August. This initiative aims to raise citizens' interest in memorial facilities and to promote a culture of honoring veterans in everyday life.
The Busan Liberation Memorial Hall was established to commemorate the history of the local independence movement and the contributions of independence activists, as well as to serve as an educational venue for future generations. It operates as an educational space that preserves the patriotic spirit of local independence patriots who fought against Japanese colonial rule and carries on the national spirit.
The exhibition hall, which spans two floors above ground, features themed records such as ▲ the Busan 3·1 Independence Movement ▲ the Dongnae Market·Gupo Market Independence Protests ▲ the history of the independence movement in the Busan area. Visitors can gain a comprehensive view of the history of the anti-Japanese independence struggle from the opening of Busan Port in 1876 to liberation in 1945.
An official from the Busan Patriots and Veterans Affairs Office stated, "In commemoration of the 80th anniversary of liberation, we have designated the Liberation Memorial Hall as the Memorial Facility of the Month to reflect on the meaning of Liberation Day and to honor the legacy of our patriotic forebears."
