Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province will undertake a major overhaul of its bus route system to improve commuting conditions and enhance accessibility to public transportation.
On July 31, Yongin City announced that it has established the "2025 Second Half Route Bus Operation Improvement Plan" and will begin implementing it in phases.

This plan includes a reform of the operation system covering metropolitan buses as well as city and village buses. It focuses on solving key transportation issues such as increasing the number of buses on congested routes, establishing new routes, and introducing eco-friendly electric buses.
For metropolitan buses, the number of vehicles operating on route 5003, which connects Namdong, Dongbaek, and Gangnam Station, will be increased from 19 to 20. For route 9241, which runs between Hansup, Giheung, and Pangyo, two additional chartered buses will be deployed during both morning and evening rush hours.
Among the seat-reservation metropolitan buses, five routes will each have their frequency increased by one or two trips. The affected routes are: ▲1550 (1 trip), ▲5002 (1 trip), ▲5006 (1 trip), ▲5500-2 (2 trips), and ▲M4101 (2 trips).
For the double-decker electric buses already introduced on routes 5003 (9 vehicles) and 5000 (5 vehicles), an additional 3 and 6 vehicles, respectively, will be introduced within the year to improve public transportation convenience.
For city buses, in order to improve accessibility to large-scale residential development areas, the routes for number 8 (Yongin Terminal~Shinwon Apartment) and number 20 (Yongin Terminal~Gyeonggi Gwangju) will be adjusted so that, starting from December this year, they will each pass through Gojin Station and Gyeonggi Gwangju Station, respectively.
To minimize gaps in public transportation, village bus routes will also be expanded. During the second half of the year, a new route connecting Gomae-dong residential complex and Dongtan Station will be established. In addition, one more vehicle will be added within the year to route 58-1, which connects Heungdeok District, Guseong Station, and Jukjeon Station.
Routes 15 (Shinbong-dong~Sujigu Office Station~Migeum) and 15-2 (Shinbong-dong~Sujigu Office Station~Jukjeon) will be converted to electric buses starting in September and October, respectively.
The city is also actively working to secure more transportation workers. As of July 16, 120 people have completed training at city-designated training institutions, and among them, 101 have been employed by local transportation companies.
Lee Sangil, Mayor of Yongin, stated, "Through various forums, we have found that citizens commonly express inconvenience with public transportation," and added, "We will sequentially expand bus routes within the year and improve transportation services so that citizens can feel the difference."
