Damyang County in South Jeolla Province (Governor Jung Chulwon) announced on July 31 that it will expand the operation of the 'Emergency Safety and Security Service' to enable elderly people living alone and people with disabilities to respond quickly in emergency situations.
The Emergency Safety and Security Service is a system that installs information and communication technology (ICT) devices such as integrated gateways, fire detectors, activity sensors, and door sensors in households with elderly people living alone, grandparent-grandchild families, two-person elderly households, and households with people with disabilities. When an emergency occurs, the system sends real-time alerts to 119 and emergency management personnel. Those who wish to have the system installed can apply at their local town or township office, or at the Damyang County Hyangchon Senior Welfare Center, which is the implementing agency.
The county has added 125 new devices this time, providing the service to a total of 1,472 households. Emergency management personnel and life support workers provide guidance on how to operate the devices and regularly check their operation to maintain a seamless safety network. As of this year, 60 emergency reports have been received through this service, and prompt dispatches have ensured the safety of elderly residents, achieving significant results.
Governor Jung Chulwon stated, "The Emergency Safety and Security Service plays a very important role in ensuring the safety and health of elderly people and people with disabilities by helping them respond quickly in emergencies," and added, "We will continue to build a robust welfare safety net to provide comprehensive care without any gaps."
