Proactive Measures Ahead of Urban Railway Line 2 Opening
Citizen Survey from August 4 to 24... Reflecting Public Opinions
"Convenience and Efficiency... Optimizing the Public Transportation System"
Gwangju City will undertake a complete overhaul of its city bus routes in October 2026, marking the first comprehensive revision in nine years. This is a proactive measure to enhance convenience for citizens ahead of the opening of Urban Railway Line 2. The city plans to actively gather residents' opinions through a citizen survey to be conducted in August.
The core of this route revision is a flexible redesign of public transportation services to adapt to changes in the urban transportation environment. The main objectives include strengthening trunk route connectivity, improving accessibility within living zones, and responding to various mobility demands.
In particular, four new express trunk bus routes will be established to improve access to the multi-purpose shopping mall and mixed-use residential complexes in the Gwangcheon area. The city is also considering introducing Demand Responsive Transport (DRT) in transportation-disadvantaged areas of Gwangsan-gu.
To encourage citizen participation, an online and offline survey will be conducted from August 4 to August 24. Anyone can submit their opinions through various channels such as the Gwangju City website, the bus operation information system, and QR codes.
Alongside the survey, the city plans to gather feedback from the field and develop improvement measures through public transportation innovation meetings and discussions with the bus association. The final routes will be confirmed after public hearings and simulation verifications.
Kim Youngseon, Director of the Integrated Airport and Transportation Bureau, stated, "This city bus route overhaul will serve as an opportunity to establish a public transportation system optimized for the region, based on a wide range of opinions from citizens, field workers, and experts." He added, "We will do our utmost to develop an efficient route revision plan through broad collection of opinions."
