"Knee Pain Relief"... Seocho District Replaces Four Elevators at Nambu and Express Bus Terminal and One Other Location

Jeon Seongsoo, Mayor of Seocho District, Vows to Strengthen Resident-Focused Administration

Seocho District in Seoul (District Mayor Jeon Seongsoo) announced on July 31 that it has completely replaced four outdated elevators installed at three major community hubs with high foot traffic to ensure safe and convenient mobility for residents.

The newly replaced elevators are located at Exit 4-2 of Nambu Terminal Station, Exit 5 of Express Bus Terminal Station, and two elevators at the Seocho Bogumjari pedestrian overpass. These areas have seen continuous requests from seniors and other mobility-impaired residents for elevator installations. The district selected these sites as priorities, taking into account the age and frequency of breakdowns of the existing elevators.

In particular, Exit 4-2 of Nambu Terminal Station had caused significant inconvenience to residents due to its closure. The district secured 200 million won in national funding to install a new elevator. In the surrounding area, they also replaced the glass panels, repainted the entrances, and significantly improved safety and the environment by installing gobolight lighting and closed-circuit (CC) TV cameras. At Exit 5 of Express Bus Terminal Station, the outdated facilities were addressed by replacing the elevator and repainting, and air conditioning was enhanced for comfortable use during the summer.

Additionally, the two elevators serving both directions on the Seocho Bogumjari pedestrian overpass were fully replaced, as they were particularly vulnerable to external environmental factors. Seocho District expects that this elevator replacement project will greatly improve the pedestrian environment.

Jeon Seongsoo, Mayor of Seocho District, stated, “This elevator replacement is not just a simple facility upgrade, but a measure to guarantee the right to mobility for all residents and transportation-vulnerable individuals, and to ensure a safe pedestrian environment.” He added, “We will continue to pursue resident-focused administration to make Seocho a place where everyone can enjoy walking.”
