900 Housing Units to Be Redeveloped
320-Unit Apartment Complex Planned
On July 31, Seongbuk District in Seoul (District Mayor Lee Seungro) announced that it has completed the approval of the project implementation plans for the Donam 6 District redevelopment project and the Gireum Market improvement project, paving the way for full-scale progress in the redevelopment of both areas.
The Donam 6 District, which was designated as a redevelopment zone in 2011 and received approval for the establishment of its association in 2019, experienced a six-year delay in progress. However, with the recent approval of the project implementation plan, redevelopment will now proceed swiftly. A total of 900 housing units, including 165 rental units, will be supplied, and convenience facilities such as social welfare centers, parks, and parking lots will be created. The transportation environment is also expected to improve.
The Gireum Market improvement project targets an area where residential conditions have deteriorated due to aging infrastructure and slumification. Despite facing challenges such as the risk of project approval expiration and administrative litigation, the project secured an extension of the validity period until September 2025. With the approval of the project implementation plan, a modern apartment complex with 320 units is expected to be developed.
Lee Seungro, Mayor of Seongbuk District, stated, “Both the Donam 6 District, which had been delayed for about six years, and the Gireum Market improvement project, which was at risk of expiration, have reached a significant turning point with the approval of their project implementation plans. Going forward, we will continue to provide active support to improve residents' quality of life through transparent and prompt administration, and we will utilize all administrative capabilities to ensure the projects proceed quickly and accurately at every stage.”
