Expected to Save 12 Million Won in Budget
and Reduce Carbon Emissions by 317 Kilograms
Jongno-gu in Seoul (District Mayor Chung Moonheon) will officially introduce a "digital business card" service for all employees starting August 1, becoming the first among Seoul's 25 autonomous districts to do so.
This initiative was established to reduce the repeated costs of producing paper business cards during personnel changes, to protect the environment, and to realize smart administration. By converting paper business cards to digital ones, the district expects to save an annual budget of 12 million won and reduce carbon emissions by 317 kilograms. In fact, over the past year, approximately 20 million won was spent to produce more than 160,000 paper business cards across 45 departments.
The newly introduced digital business cards are available in two designs?horizontal and vertical?and automatically reflect personnel information. District employees can easily share their business cards via the "JongnoPick" application, and can also send them in text format. For privacy protection, employees can choose whether to display their mobile phone numbers. In addition, the app allows staff to check work-related information such as remaining leave days, which is expected to enhance administrative efficiency.
The service was developed from March to July of this year, and its completeness was improved by integrating the existing administrative portal, personnel system, and the JongnoPick app. In August, the district plans to hold an event for all employees to promote early adoption of digital business cards.
Since the "Smart City Vision Declaration Ceremony" in November 2023, Jongno-gu has obtained smart city certification from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in December, and launched the "JongnoPick" app in January last year, providing 111 types of daily convenience services such as real-time parking, program search, and traffic information.
This year, in collaboration with KT, the district is focusing on the "Smart City Living Lab," which combines resident participation and advanced technology to implement practical smart administration, such as providing information on protests and rallies and responding to wild animal sightings. In addition, through the "Crime Prevention Inclusive City Living Lab," the district is utilizing AI technology to strengthen resident safety.
Chung Moonheon, Mayor of Jongno-gu, stated, "The mobile digital business card service is an example of innovative administration that simultaneously pursues digital transformation and eco-friendly practices," adding, "We will create an efficient and environmentally friendly work environment to suit an era where non-face-to-face communication has become the norm."
