Jindo County in South Jeolla Province held a policy meeting to strengthen communication with the local fisheries industry and address current issues, directly listening to the voices of fisheries workers.
On the 23rd, the county announced on the 30th that it had held a policy meeting with the Jindo County Fisheries Association at the association's meeting room. The meeting was attended by around 30 people, including Jindo County Governor Kim Heesu, county officials, Association President Lee Gwanghoe, and the presidents of 14 professional organizations.
The meeting covered a wide range of issues and challenges facing the fisheries industry, including strategies for promoting fisheries support projects, response measures to fisheries disasters such as typhoons, heat waves, and abnormal sea temperatures, strengthening marine environment protection activities, and suggestions on current issues by sector. In particular, the association requested active attention and support from the county to help resolve management difficulties caused by the stagnation of the abalone industry and rising labor and operating costs.
Governor Kim Heesu stated, "I understand the difficulties faced by the fisheries industry, including abalone aquaculture," and added, "We will actively reflect the voices from the field in our policies and establish a continuous cooperation system so that fisheries workers can focus on their livelihoods with peace of mind."
Meanwhile, the county plans to use this meeting as an opportunity to narrow the gap between reality in the fisheries field and policy, and to establish a competitive fisheries industry foundation through tailored fisheries support policies.
