Kim Minsoo, a board director (photo), has been elected as the acting president of the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies (KOFST).
On July 30, KOFST announced that it held its 4th board meeting at the Korea Science and Technology Center in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and elected an acting president to fill the vacancy left by the recent resignation of former president Lee Taesik.
During the board meeting, KOFST elected the acting president in accordance with Article 13 of the Articles of Association (Duties of Officers). The new acting president will perform the duties of the president until the next president takes office.
Acting president Kim stated, "I am acutely aware of the issues facing KOFST and the demands of the science and technology community, and I will do my utmost to restore stability and trust within the organization."
After earning his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Seoul National University, acting president Kim served as a visiting researcher at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the United States. He is currently a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Seoul National University, a full member of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea, and the chair of the International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR) General Assembly.
Meanwhile, former president Lee Taesik voluntarily resigned on July 21 after allegations of misappropriation of business expenses and overseas travel funds were raised following a comprehensive audit by the Ministry of Science and ICT. KOFST plans to proceed swiftly and transparently with the subsequent procedures for electing a new president in accordance with its regulations.
