Lee Myungja, former director of the May Mothers' House, sent an open letter to President Lee Jaemyung on July 29, urging him to grant a pardon and restore the rights of Cho Kuk, former leader of the Cho Kuk Innovation Party.

According to the Gwangju branch of the Cho Kuk Innovation Party on July 30, Lee began her letter, titled "We Are 5·18 Mothers," by requesting the reinstatement of those who were unjustly victimized during the administration of President Yoon Sukyeol.

Lee wrote, "I hope you will swiftly restore the rights of those who fell victim to the Yoon Sukyeol prosecution regime and thereby solidify the foundation of the new government," adding, "You yourself, Mr. President, became a victim of ruthless power, ensnared by political traps, and former leader Cho Kuk also shared in that suffering."

She particularly emphasized, "Former leader Cho Kuk is also a witness to the brutal era scarred by prosecutorial power," and added, "His very existence paradoxically revealed the injustice of the previous regime."

She continued, "I hope you will personally restore those who were wrongfully sacrificed to their rightful place," and appealed, "Let the new government become an embracing mother to the wounds of our time."

Lee expressed her gratitude by saying, "Thank you for keeping your promise to include the spirit of 5·18 in the preamble of the Constitution and for your pledge to return to Gwangju after the presidential election," and expressed her hope, "I sincerely pray that the light of Gwangju will lead to a revolution and that your government will shine brilliantly."
