Search and Seizure Conducted at Lawmaker's Office Following July 28 Operation
Alleged Collusion with Yoon Couple in Nomination Interference
The special prosecutor's team led by Min Jungki, investigating the alleged nomination interference by former President Yoon Suk-yeol and his wife, has conducted another search and seizure of Lee Junseok, leader of the Reform New Party.
Lee Junseok, the presidential candidate of the Reform New Party, arrived at the party's vote counting situation room set up in the National Assembly Members' Office Building after confirming the exit poll results announced by the three major broadcasters on the 3rd, and expressed his thoughts. 2025.6.3 Photo by Kim Hyunmin
On July 30, at around 1 p.m., the special prosecutor's team sent prosecutors and investigators to Lee's National Assembly office in Yeouido to secure documents and files from his PC.
The team had also searched Lee's residence and office in Sanggye-dong, Nowon-gu, Seoul, on July 28. As the previous search was not completed, they continued the operation on this day to obtain additional digital evidence.
According to reports, the search and seizure warrant specifies charges of obstruction of business, alleging that Lee, in collusion with former President Yoon Suk-yeol and Kim Kunhee, was improperly involved in the nomination process.
The special prosecutor's team is currently investigating the so-called "Myung Taegyun Gate" allegations. At the time of the June 2022 local elections and by-elections, when suspicions of nomination interference by the former presidential couple emerged, Lee was the leader of the People Power Party.
Former President Yoon Suk-yeol and his wife are suspected of having received free public opinion polling services from political broker Myung Taegyun during the 2022 presidential election, in return for ensuring that former lawmaker Kim Youngsun was nominated in the subsequent by-election that year.
Additionally, Lee is suspected of having proposed to Myung that Kim Youngsun be appointed as ambassador to France.
Lee's side has consistently denied knowledge of the former presidential couple's alleged involvement in the nomination process.
