K-Content with AI Dubbing to Be Broadcast in 20 Countries Worldwide

The government announced on the 30th that it has selected a final list of 20 'K-Channels' as part of a project to support the expansion of K-advertising-based free streaming (FAST) services utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) dubbing technology. Starting from the fourth quarter, over 4,400 pieces of content?including dramas, variety shows, and movies?will be dubbed into local languages such as English, Spanish, and Portuguese, and broadcast in more than 20 countries across North America, Europe, Central and South America, and Asia.

'FAST (Free Ad-supported Streaming TV)' refers to a free streaming TV service based on advertising. The market size is expected to reach $12 billion and 1.1 billion users by 2027. The Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Information and Communication Promotion Association have begun full-scale localization efforts, including dubbing domestic content using AI.

The selected K-Channels consist of 7 drama channels, 5 variety channels, 3 movie channels, 1 K-pop channel, and 4 other channels covering games, travel, and current affairs. By language, there are 12 English-dubbed channels, 7 Spanish-dubbed channels, and 1 Portuguese-dubbed channel.

The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to hold the 'International FAST Conference' and the 'K-FAST Advertising Business Meetup' in August, and to promote the Korean-style FAST model through the 'Global K-FAST Showcase' within the year.

Kang Doseong, Director of Broadcasting Promotion Policy, stated, "By combining K-FAST and AI localization technology, we will build a foundation for the global expansion of our unique K-media and content. Through public-private cooperation models, we will actively support K-Channels so that they can take root in the global market."
