On the morning of July 30 at 10:00 AM, Daejeon Mayor Lee Jangwoo visited the city hall press room to discuss the results of his overseas business trip, stating, "Merck in Germany has requested an additional 5,800 pyeong of land in Daejeon."

On July 28 (local time), Mayor Lee visited the headquarters of Merck located in Darmstadt, Germany, and met with Jean-Charles Wirth, the newly appointed CEO of Life Science.

Regarding Merck's request, Mayor Lee said, "There is land remaining near the site where Merck is building in Daejeon. If Merck formally submits an investment plan, Daejeon City can quickly proceed with the process to designate this area as a foreign investment zone."

He continued, "Jean-Charles Wirth, CEO of Merck, stated that the bioprocessing production center being built in the Dungok District of Daejeon is the most central production facility in the Asia-Pacific region, and he promised to visit Daejeon around the first half of next year."

Mayor Lee emphasized, "Merck is expected to create more than 300 jobs from next year until 2028. If Merck makes additional investments, Daejeon City will actively cooperate."

Mayor Lee also provided an explanation regarding the dredging of the three major rivers in Daejeon.

He stated, "Daejeon proactively carried out river dredging measures over the past two years. Because water can now flow quickly even during heavy rains, there was almost no damage this time."

He added, "If river dredging is not carried out and significant damage occurs, it will directly affect citizens, require administrative resources, and lead to difficult situations where thousands or even tens of thousands of people must be mobilized. Therefore, next year, we will continue river dredging in areas that have not yet been addressed."
