Gangnam District Appoints 24 Civil Auditors to Strengthen Integrity-Focused Administration

Checking Areas Vulnerable to Corruption Through Public-Private Cooperation

Gangnam District in Seoul (District Mayor Cho Sungmyung) announced on the 30th that it had newly appointed civil auditors at the district office’s main building on the 29th, thereby further strengthening the foundation for public-private cooperation. During the integrity policy meeting held alongside the appointment ceremony, participants discussed diagnosing areas vulnerable to corruption and ways to improve them, sharing the direction for realizing integrity-focused administration centered on resident participation.

With this appointment, Gangnam District will expand the civil auditor system to 24 members. This expansion reflects both expertise and local representation, as the auditors were recommended by residents from each neighborhood. Sixteen auditors will serve in general fields, three in architecture, three in civil engineering, and two in electrical engineering, allowing residents from various backgrounds to take on the role of auditor.

These auditors will inspect risk factors related to daily inconveniences, conduct practical on-site inspections such as during the thawing season and in preparation for flooding, offer suggestions to enhance administrative transparency, and participate in improvement activities.

During the integrity policy meeting, concrete improvement tasks were shared, focusing on the four key areas of vulnerability to corruption designated by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, based on the 2025 report analyzing and identifying corruption-prone areas. These four areas are: contract and permit processing, prevention and recovery of fraudulent subsidy claims, eradicating collusion in reconstruction and redevelopment projects, and addressing social issues related to the concentration of entertainment establishments. Discussions centered on effective institutional improvements and ways to restore trust in administration.

Cho Sungmyung, Mayor of Gangnam District, emphasized, “Integrity is the barometer of administrative trust, and trust with residents is the foundation of district governance. Going forward, through the civil auditor system and integrity policy meetings, we will continue to review policies from the residents’ perspective and realize an administration that upholds the integrity unique to Gangnam.”
