Trump Pressures Russia for Ceasefire: "10 Days from Today"

U.S. President Donald Trump has increased pressure on Russia by setting a 10-day deadline for a ceasefire with Ukraine, Bloomberg News reported on the 29th (local time).

On this day, President Trump, speaking aboard his private plane returning from Scotland to the United States, stated that Russia's deadline to enter into ceasefire negotiations is "10 days from today."

The previous day, after holding a summit with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, President Trump also urged Russia to decide on a ceasefire, threatening to impose new tariff sanctions if it did not comply. At that time, he mentioned a grace period of "10 or 12 days from today," but has now set it firmly at 10 days.

Earlier, on the 14th, President Trump said that if Russia did not agree to a ceasefire with Ukraine, he would impose tariffs and also levy a so-called "secondary tariff" of around 100% on countries trading with Russia. At that time, he presented a 50-day deadline.

President Trump said, "We plan to impose tariffs and other measures, but I don't know if it will affect Russia," explaining, "because (Vladimir Putin, President of Russia) clearly wants to continue the war."

Officials in the Trump administration believe that if sanctions are imposed on Russia, it is highly likely that secondary tariffs will be levied on countries purchasing Russian crude oil and other products. Some analysts predict that if secondary tariffs are imposed on Russian oil, international oil prices could rise.

However, when asked whether he was concerned about the impact of additional sanctions on Russia on the oil market, President Trump replied, "I'm not worried," and added, "Our country (the United States) has so much oil. We can just increase production."
