Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dongyeon stated on July 29 that he welcomes Land, Infrastructure and Transport Minister nominee Kim Yoonduk's remark during his confirmation hearing that he would "respond firmly" to the allegations surrounding the Yangpyeong Expressway.
Governor Kim Dongyeon wrote on his social networking service (SNS) account that day, "I welcome the nominee's statement that 'the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will fulfill its responsibilities,'" and emphasized, "The first task to be pursued after taking office as minister must be the swift resumption and implementation of the original plan for the Yangpyeong Expressway project."
He continued, "Among the various allegations currently under investigation by the Kim Keonhee special prosecutor, the most disgraceful is the 'Yangpyeong Expressway' case," and lamented, "If the allegations raised are proven to be true, it would constitute an anti-national crime that turned a major national project into a family business profit model."
He particularly stated, "Since the issue arose, I have consistently questioned, 'Who changed it, why, and how?'" and added, "Depending on the results of the special prosecutor's investigation, the truth about those higher up than the consulting firm and working-level officials at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will soon be revealed to the public."
He further said, "During this time, Democratic Party lawmakers?especially Kang Deukgu, Lee Soyoung, and Han Junho?have made great efforts to uncover the truth," and added, "Lawmakers from the People Power Party will have nothing to say no matter how many excuses they make. I once again urge the swift implementation of the original plan for the sake of Yangpyeong residents and the people of Gyeonggi Province."
