According to reports from AP and other media outlets on the 29th (local time), Russia conducted overnight airstrikes on a prison in the southeastern Zaporizhzhia region of Ukraine, killing at least 17 inmates and injuring more than 80 people.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on Telegram that "22 people were killed in Russian attacks on 73 cities and towns across the country," adding, "This was an intentional and deliberate attack, not an accident."

As a result of this attack, 42 inmates sustained serious injuries and were transported to hospitals, while 40 people, including one staff member, were injured.

The Russian military carried out eight airstrikes throughout the night, including dropping four glide bombs on the Vilenkiuska Prison in Zaporizhzhia.

Authorities also reported that at least four people were killed and eight injured in the southeastern Dnipro region due to Russian airstrikes.

The Russian military has recently increased airstrikes on civilian areas. However, Dmitry Peskov, spokesperson for the Kremlin, said during a briefing that "the Russian military does not attack civilians and only targets military and paramilitary facilities," denying attacks on prisons and other such facilities, according to TASS.
