Nextchip announced on July 29 that it has signed a partnership with R Corporation, the largest domestic robot platform specialist, to jointly develop a vision system for robots.
R Corporation is recognized as the largest robotics company in Korea, focusing on the development and manufacturing of collaborative robots and service robots as its main business. The company leads the domestic robotics industry by providing robot platforms in various fields such as manufacturing automation, service robots, and logistics robots.
Under the agreement, Nextchip will be responsible for providing each component of the vision system, ensuring system reliability, and offering technical support to enhance safety. R Corporation will define the vision system specifications based on the robot operating environment, develop machine vision and structured light-based 3D systems, and conduct actual application and performance verification.
Nextchip's high-definition video processing technology, image signal processing (ISP) technology, and real-time video recognition technology for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) will be used to improve the robot's object recognition and three-dimensional spatial understanding capabilities. The robot vision system is scheduled to begin prototype development in the second half of 2025, with plans to conduct technology verification and market testing for commercialization in 2026.
A Nextchip representative stated, "Collaboration with R Corporation, recognized as the largest robot platform company in Korea, is a strategic move to expand Nextchip's video processing technology into the robotics field," adding, "We will accelerate the diversification of our business portfolio by securing new growth engines in the robotics market."
Meanwhile, Nextchip has recently announced a series of achievements in expanding its business in the robotics sector. The company has started supplying technology for Hyundai Motor Company's compact mobility platform 'MobED', which is scheduled for release at the end of the year. Nextchip has also signed a contract to supply video transmission technology to Company A, a leading listed company in the domestic collaborative robot sector, securing new sources of revenue.
