This is a follow-up measure in response to the President's directive for a "forward-looking review of the returned US military bases in northern Gyeonggi Province." Following the President's directive, the city has taken swift action by delivering improvement measures for the returned bases to the Ministry of National Defense, conducting on-site inspections of the returned bases with officials from the Ministry of National Defense, and holding policy consultations with members of the National Assembly.

The meeting, held at Hoeryong Hall (main conference room) at City Hall and presided over by Deputy Mayor Kang Hyunseok, was attended by Yoo Sojeong, Director of the Investment Promotion Division of Gyeonggi Province, related officials, the Director of the Economic and Employment Bureau of Uijeongbu City, and staff members responsible for attracting businesses.

They discussed strategies for attracting strategic industries and implementation directions for each site, focusing on major returned bases such as Camp Jackson, Camp Red Cloud, and Camp Kyle.

In particular, this meeting was significant in that it was a practical discussion to concretize the implementation foundation for transforming the returned bases into strategic industrial sites, with the Investment Promotion Division of Gyeonggi Province, which supports the attraction of foreign-invested and returning companies, collaborating with Uijeongbu City, which has been designated as a candidate site for the Gyeonggi Free Economic Zone.

The city is concretizing a cluster-type development model focused on high value-added industries such as digital healthcare, content and AI, and bio-medical devices, tailored to the characteristics and conditions of each site. In addition, the city is focusing on improving systems and refining location strategies through consultations with central government agencies and Gyeonggi Province.

Deputy Mayor Kang Hyunseok stated, "Since development discussions about the returned bases have been repeated for a long time, it is now time for action," and added, "I hope this meeting will serve as a starting point for implementing the prepared strategies, and that Uijeongbu City and Gyeonggi Province will work together to push forward with speed."
