According to Yeosu Maritime Police, there have been a total of 137 water leisure equipment-related accidents over the past three years. Of these, approximately 86%, or 118 cases, were found to be caused by engine failure or drifting due to insufficient equipment inspection. Such primary accidents can lead to secondary major accidents such as collisions, groundings, or capsizing, highlighting the need for regular equipment inspections.

Accordingly, Yeosu Maritime Police plans to provide education on safety inspection procedures, especially for beginners and the general public who are not familiar with equipment checks, in order to enhance practical safety capabilities.

A Yeosu Maritime Police official stated, "The importance of equipment inspection increases during the summer, when water leisure activities become more popular," and urged, "In addition to regular equipment inspections, please practice basic safety awareness by reporting nearby water leisure activities and complying with safety regulations."
