Honam University announced on July 29 that Professor Cha Jaegwan from the Department of Esports Industry was officially invited to deliver a keynote presentation at the "2025 China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week," which was held from July 24 to 27 in Gui'an New District, Guiyang, China.

This event, co-hosted by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Education, and the People's Government of Guizhou Province, is the largest education cooperation event in China. More than 1,000 representatives from major educational institutions in Korea, China, Japan, and the 10 ASEAN countries attended.

In his presentation titled "Community-Based Convergent Education and Global Cooperation Models in Esports," Professor Cha emphasized the importance of regionally based education involving local governments, industries, and universities working together.

He explained that strategic linkage between the esports industry and content education can enhance the global competencies of local youth. He also introduced practical education cases at Honam University, such as the university-industry-government linked curriculum, local esports leagues, and convergent programs for esports broadcasting production and marketing.

Additionally, he proposed the need for joint curriculum development, talent exchange, and collaborative research with universities in China and ASEAN countries, and shared a vision for building a sustainable international cooperation network.

During the event, more than 60 memoranda of understanding (MOUs) were signed and the establishment of eight overseas education and research institutions was promoted, resulting in various cooperative achievements. Professor Cha was also officially appointed as an advisory member of the Guizhou Province Esports Industry-Academia Convergence Community.

Professor Cha stated, "Through this Education Cooperation Week, we will further concretize joint research and student exchange with educational institutions in China and ASEAN," and added, "I will do my best to ensure that Honam University's esports education model contributes to establishing Asia as a digital education hub."
